Best running shoes for heavier runners 2026

Road shoes with deep cushioning and a stable base: the combination heavier runners (roughly 80 kg and up) tend to get on best with.

23 current models, ranked by their average score from published reviews (how we rank). Updated October 2026. Want a personal pick? Try the shoe finder.

How to choose

Heavier runners compress foam further with every step, so a soft, thin shoe can bottom out and feel unstable. Look for a generous stack of cushioning on a broad base, and a durable outsole that won't wear through quickly.

You don't need a stability shoe unless your feet roll inwards; a naturally stable neutral shoe works well for many. Fit matters more than anything, so choose a wide version if the standard feels tight.
